Our Detail-Oriented Process.
Case Design + Fabricating leaves no stone unturned when it comes to meeting your millwork and casework needs. Our attention to detail is evident in our thorough process.
Step 1: CONSULTATION
For each project, we begin with a consultation to learn about your specific needs. For residential projects, we work collaboratively with homeowners and designers to tailor our designs to their unique tastes. When it comes to material selection, we provide you with the cost, quality, and lead time information you need to make the best choice for your project. Consultations for commercial projects are focused on product quantity and construction timeline in addition to aesthetics. With our 18,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art fabrication shop, we are able to handle both large and small-scale millwork and casework jobs.
Step 2: CAD DRAWINGS
With extensive CAD experience, our team will create detailed shop drawings of your custom millwork in accordance with Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) standards. We work closely with you as general contractor and with your clients to get our CAD drawings just right.
Step 3: HOT PRESS
Once all parties approve the design, most of our custom millwork begins at the hot press. This is where the finish material, like wood veneer or laminate, is pressed and bonded to raw substrate, such as plywood, particle board, or MDF. Case Design + Fabricating is proud to have one of the largest Hot Presses in the region, with 5’X12’ capabilities. This size Hot Press gives us the ability to work with boards that typically have to be specially ordered or hand-glued, saving you time and money.
Step 4: CNC MACHINING
Next in the millwork process comes the Busellato CNC machine, which works in tandem with Mozaik and Wave programming to cut the boards into precise sizes and quantities. This process allows our skilled artisans to arrange all of the pieces for any given job and optimize the layout for maximum board yield, cutting down on costs without sacrificing quality. CNC machining allows us to fabricate cabinets and other wood pieces with tight tolerances for extreme precision. At this stage we also drill pieces for hardware and make any other cutouts needed for product assembly. Our CNC capabilities extend beyond wood. We also machine solid surfaces to shape countertops and custom units.
Step 5: MACHINING
For cabinetry or casework, the pieces will move from the CNC machine to the Homag Edgebander to receive PVC or veneer edge material. Then they will go to the Omal Doweler, be assembled, and run through the Case Clamp, where the dowels are pressure-sealed for added strength and stability. For high-end custom pieces, materials may filter through the Hot Press and CNC machine before being hand-assembled, or pieces may be cut, constructed, and finished entirely by hand. We tailor our services to your project, ensuring that the level of customization meets your specific needs.
Step 6: ASSEMBLY + FINISHING
With assembly complete, we install all interior elements like drawer boxes, roll-out trays, adjustable shelves, trash pull-outs, and other specialty organizational inserts before mounting the cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Our in-house finisher completes the aesthetics of our millwork and casework with clear coats, stains, or paint, including color matching. Depending on the specific product, finishing may happen first on flat boards straight off the press or last on the assembled product.
